Does acupuncture hurt?

It is not un-common for a patient to be afraid of needles or nervous about possible sensations that can arise during acupuncture sessions.

Acupuncture should not be painful. We use very fine needles and we seek to obtain a sensation that we term “de-qi” which may be felt as a buzz, a dull sensation or a slight ache that will generally dissipate quickly. This notifies us that our intention for the point has been received and the Qi has been activated.

Acupuncture is very different to ‘dry needling’ performed by massage therapist and other health practitioners and has very different purposes and effects on the receiver. Acupuncture is not a protected term, and as such other therapists use this term for what is otherwise called dry-needling. Qualified Acupuncturists undergo 4+ years of rigorous study and practical application of acupuncture to ensure the treatment is comfortable and relaxing for the receiver.

Do I have to have needles?

No, you do not.

If you are afraid of needles there are other techniques that can be used to generate the same response in the body.
The needle acts as a conduit to activiate the network of nerves around the Acu-point.

Acupressure tools and Tui Na (Chinese massage techniques) can be used to activate channels and points to assist in establishing balance within the body

Do you accept Private Health?

Yes, if your Private Health provider covers Acupuncture your will be provided with a receipt once you have have paid for your appointment with all the details necessary to lodge a claim with your insurance provider. This is usually a simple process that can be done online or Via the health funds app.

Should I book a 60min follow-up or 45min follow-up?

I reccomend booking a 60 minute follow-up for your first few sessions after your initial treatment.

60 minute sessions are more beneficial if you require a longer consult time, or you enjoy having longer to lay on the table and relax.

45 minute sessions are a shorter follow-up appointment available for people who have had a few treatments already. It is designed for clients who have a comprehensive treatment plan already or have regular maintenance treatments. I will generally advise you when you are applicable for this treatment time.

Do you treat newborns?

Yes, I treat newborns and babies from 0 months through to 10 years covered under a paediatric appointment.

10 years and above need to be booked us an general initial or follow-up.

Can I bring my baby/child to the appointment?

You are always welcome to bring your babies/toddlers to appointments
